The self-custody category exists because most crypto cards aren't. Custodial cards keep your stablecoins on the issuer's books until the moment you swipe, which is convenient but means you've effectively re-banked. The 47 cards listed below settle directly from a wallet you control, either through smart-contract escrow at the issuer or by drawing from your on-chain balance at point of sale. The user-facing trade is almost always a tighter chain or token list (USDC on one or two networks, not free choice), and most of these products are early-stage. Tangem Pay, Rizon, Deblock, imToken and Tuyo each implement the model differently, read the custody field on each card detail page, since "self-custody" is sometimes used loosely. Cards filtered below are those where your private key, or smart-contract control, holds until settlement. Cypher and Exodus draw from a wallet you control, and the Avalanche Card settles from on-chain balances at the till.
