Both agreements (BFF Prime, US; BFF United, El Salvador) were read end to end, and neither mentions Bangor Savings Bank or "Member FDIC", so the Bangor attribution in search results is unsupported.

Banking and fiat rails
Card overview
UglyCash is a live prepaid Visa built LATAM-first, and the cashback that sells it is paid in RSR (Reserve Rights), a volatile governance token dropped into a separate account, so its fiat value floats and can fall after you earn it. It is not the stablecoin you spend. UglyCash is 'not a bank'; BFF Prime is a FinCEN-registered MSB, KYC runs through Sumsub, and money transmission is handled by Bridge Building Inc (NMLS #2450917).
The model is mixed: your card spending balance is custodial, held in segregated accounts as an asset-backed eUSD token that is explicitly not a bank deposit and not insured, while the separate investment portfolio is self-custody. The virtual card is free once you hold $5 in the Earn account, and the spendable balance itself earns a 2% base reward. Base cashback is 1%, credited every Friday. Higher tiers of 2%, 4% and 6% sit behind a $20/mo membership and also need $1,000, $10,000 or $20,000 of trading in 30 days, and they apply only to the first $2,000 of purchases a month.
Spending costs 2% FX in most countries (1% in Colombia, 0.66% in Mexico), and ATM cash $2.50 plus 1% to 2%. Available in about 40 countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia, though the Ugly Visa is not offered in Venezuela; US access is California only, under a separate BFF Prime agreement.
- Best fit
- LATAM users wanting a USD-stablecoin account on local rails, plus Californians
- Wrong card if
- you need nationwide US coverage, self-custody of the spending balance, or cashback in stable value
